FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia

World Cup 2018  – the 21st FIFA World Cup, the final part of which is held in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018. Russia for the first time in its history has become the host country of the world football championship, in addition, it is held for the first time in Eastern Europe. Also for the first time the mundial takes place on the territory of two parts of the world – Europe and Asia. The championship is held at 12 stadiums in 11 cities of Russia. This is the first soccer World Cup, which uses a system of video assistance to the arbitrators.

As a result of the selection, 31 teams were qualified, including 7 out of 8 teams that previously won the world championships. The only team of former world champions who did not qualify for the final tournament is Italy. In the previous two championships, all 8 champions of the world participated. For the first time, Iceland’s national team and the Panama team take part in the world championship.

State contracts for the construction of all the stadiums of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia were signed on December 26, 2014. After that, 12 stadiums were constructed and reconstructed in 11 cities of Russia.

The official talisman of the tournament was the wolf Zabivak. Famous footballers Ronaldo (Brazil) and Zvonimir Boban (Croatia) took part in the presentation.

The opening ceremony of the World Cup was held June 14 at the stadium Luzhniki.

Officially, the championship was opened by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The official song of the World Cup-2018 was performed by American actor, hip-hop artist Will Smith and Nicky Jem, as well as Kosovar singer Era Istrefi and American musician Diplo. At the opening ceremony, the singer of the Vienna Opera Aida Garifullina and British pop singer Robbie Williams sang. In the ceremony, Brazilian footballer Ronaldo was involved.
