BRICS leaders called for cooperation to ensure global economic growth

In Johannesburg (South Africa), the tenth BRICS summit finished, with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramafosa, Brazilian President Michel Temer, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As part of the summit, the leaders of the BRICS signed the Johannesburg Declaration following the results of 10 years of the organization’s work.

Building a secure world together, based on UN principles, was called upon by the leaders of the BRICS countries at the summit in Johannesburg. Terrorism, the danger of chemical and biological weapons, the possibility of an arms race in outer space – all the most pressing problems were touched upon in the final declaration. They talked a lot about the economy.

At the other end of the world, the heads of the countries that are creating a third of the world’s gross product gathered. This is the largest market in the world. In the economic sphere, the states of the “five” collectively solve such important tasks as modernization of industry, development of high technologies, increasing competitiveness, improving the living standards of the population.

BRICS economies continue to support growth and prospects for the global economy. “We are in favor of further coordinated use of fiscal, monetary, and structural economic policy instruments to ensure rapid, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth,” the document says.

“It is important to overcome geopolitical conflicts and fight the growing protectionism and unilateral approaches that pose a particular threat to developing countries and emerging economies. We can do everything to ensure that our voice is heard in the framework of developing new solutions. Together we could form a new type of international relations based on respect, equality and mutually beneficial cooperation, “Xi Jinping said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the BRICS countries to actively partner in the digital economy.

In the conditions of the development of the digital economy it is important to ensure the safety of society, citizens and business. Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa need to cooperate more actively in this direction.

According to Vladimir Putin, the fourth industrial or digital revolution that is taking place in the world has a great impact on development, allows creating new branches of the economy, cutting costs, increasing productivity and efficiency of labor.

A package of documents was signed, aimed at strengthening political and economic cooperation. Two memorandums are aimed at cooperation in the field of environmental protection and partnership in the aviation industry. A new development impetus was received also by the BRICS development bank – in Brazil its branch will open.

“The Board of Directors approved 21 projects, of which five will be implemented in Russia for a total amount of more than a billion dollars. I support the idea of opening regional branches of the bank, negotiations are held with Brazil on this matter. We proceed from the fact that after they are completed, the issue will also be discussed about opening an office in the Russian Federation, “Putin said.

At the end of the working program of the summit, the president of South Africa remembered one of Nelson Mandela’s favorite phrases: “the future is in our hands,” and invited the leaders to leave a print of their hands in memory of the outstanding policy. These clay slabs will be taken to a museum in which the imprint of the wrestler with apartheid is kept.

Becoming a traditional photo at the BRICS summits of the leaders who took their hands is just a symbol of common goals. The motto of the BRICS anniversary forum in Africa: cooperation with developing countries to achieve inclusive growth in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. According to the host of the summit, the president of South Africa, it is about erasing the boundaries between the physical, technological and digital spheres of development. Anyone who does not join this movement will quickly be left far behind.
